GQ2 ENHANCED Released
Hi Friends, GQ2e "In Search of Queen Lorraine" Enhanced is completed and released.
Most of the graphics have been completely redone. I have redrawn/repainted the room backgrounds, and closeups (83 of 100) as well as their corresponding objects/bobs. I left 17 backgrounds/closeups as they were satisfactory, or the rooms code/scripts were so complex, I didn't want to mess with the room and screw it up. The original release was intentionally done in the early Sierra genre using primarily 16 or less colors palettes. In the redo I used 32 and 64 half bright palettes similar to what I used in GQ3 & GQ4. So the backgrounds are much richer and deeper. I also reworked the intro and ending animations adding more frames for smoother animations, such as George walking on and off the screen for a more realistic gate. I also ensured rooms seen in the other games matched such as George's bedroom. I also caught some type-o's and spelling errors I missed the first time around. The redone game was tested on a real Pal 1200, a real NTSC 1200 and a real PAL 600 as well as on a win-UAE configured as a stock A1200 all with 1.6mb or more free chip ram and it ran rock solid without any issues on all systems; and the game played in full game window with no cut offs or loss of picture in either PAL or NTSC or UAE mode.
Lastly, I made a few changes to the game play, (in 3 or 4 rooms) I included a PDF of the GQ2 Game Manual Addendum walking through the changes.
This is the last major contribution to the Geo's Quest Series. My last effort is to embed fs-UAE so it can be played on a Mac or PC without an emulator. I am studying the FS-uae github to figure out how to do it. Apparently it can be done, where fs-uae is embedded in the game file, hidden and loads directly to the game when executed. This opens up the Amiga to such a larger market who don't have Amigas or emulators.
I have been attempting to convert the games and reduce their game play so they can be played on 1mb Amigas, but alas, it would mean most animations would be eliminated or reduced so much that it would change the rooms game play. Many of the rooms in all 3 games use between 800kb and 1.4mb of chip ram so it would mean taking out a lot, which would significantly change the game play. Also, the games within the game in GQ3 & GQ4 would have to be removed, which would alter the game play too much. I really don't want to have to rework them that much, it would take me up to another year for all 3 games, so I will unfortunately not be reworking them for 1mb Amigas. Sorry.
After 6 years devoted to it (of which non stop in the last 4 years, since November 2021) its time to give George a rest. I have taken Grac2 as far as it can go and some.
I have new Box Sleeves, CD labels and the GQ4 Color Manual & Map printed and have about 50 box sets left (unfortunately I only sold about 35 in total world wide and gave away about 10) so I will redo the remaining box sets with all 3 games, (including the enhanced GQ2) manuals & maps. I will have enough new sleeves and CD labels and GQ4 manuals left for those 35 who bought the set already (minimum printing was 100) so send me an email (found in the games manuals in the box set) with your email address and I will send the new sleeve, new CD with all games and GQ4 Manual & Map for just the price of shipping. I'll be able to determine what that cost is once I have your address. Additionally, I have moved back to Canada (the true north strong & FREE) so there shouldn't be any tariff issues for over seas as I will be sending them from Canada. (hopefully, but those in the US will likely have to pay tariffs)
Now time for a break, a beer and continue reading th Scorpion site tutorials as I hope to move on to that development tool for my next project.
I still haven't abandoned my plan to make a comic (graphic novel) of George, but I need to rethink how I will do it without loosing a boat load of money again. I dread the kickstarter campaigns after everything I've read about them (particularly in the retro development scene) I am thinking perhaps of Kindle or Barnes and Noble self publishing tools where they look after all the printing and shipping. What is left over for the author is peanuts, but at least you don't lose money. I'll keep you posted.
As of today, and since Feb 2023 I have had a total of 5215 views on my GWI itch site, 1354 downloads of all games in total of which 51 donated to the developer. I have had great reviews in Amiga Addict, Amiga Future & Fusion with wonderful plugs by Dr. Chris, Amiga Bill and Saberman. Its been a great journey, I haven't had this much fun in a long time. I am an old man who lives alone with his dog , and this has been something I looked forward to every morning I woke up. Thanks to all who have come along for the ride.
Lets keep Amiga Alive!
Cheers

Great adventure game series, lots of fun to play. I added it to the video along with other Amiga games released in January.
Thanks Friend.
