PROLOGUE

I started this project in 1998/99 when Alastair Murray released his iconic Backbone game engine for Amiga. I actually started this before I began the Geo's Quest (GQ) series (2001). I shelved the project in or about the same time I shelved the GQ project in 2002 as life intervened. Fast forward to 2021,  I retire , then resurrect the GQ project, and spend the following 4.5 years completing it. Now I am endeavoring to complete the Geo's Adventures (GA) series. I plan on 3 episodes at this time.

The GA series is being developed on the modern Scorpion engine for Amigas, but I wanted to finish what I started way back then on a real Amiga. (Scorpion is PC only combined with an Amiga emulator for testing). So I completed the first world of 5 levels and 9 breakout rooms for a total of 14 game rooms in this Amiga Prologue version on my Amiga 600/630 in Backbone. Of course Backbone from 1998 lacks many of the modern game attributes found in Scorpion, but it is still a powerful development system (albeit weighted down with its well known bugs). This is intended to give you a glimpse of what Episode One will look like (kind of).

My plan is to begin with this 2d Platfomer in Episode 1, then an Isometric RPG type adventure for Episode 2 and then a first person perspective adventure like Myst for Episode 3. All with George as the main character of course. In the RPG he will be joined by known Amiga characters you choose.

Anticipated release date of the actual Geo's Adventure Episode One should be early 2027, and hopefully all 3 by 2029/30 (if I live that long. lol) Have fun, I hope you enjoy the prologue. Stay tuned here for more info on the project as it develops.

Nice platformer, though still quite unpolished. The scrolling is awful jerky, and the game crashes completely when you press the second fire button. The sound is also rather run-of-the-mill. There is still a lot of potential here. Our German-language preview can be found at 05:20:05. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂

Hello, in one of my last issues of Retro News Flash, I covered the game Geo´s Adventure Prologue and ran a short report on it. It´s a really great game, I really liked it. All the best from Magisthan´s Spielekiste. 🙂

Thanks very much for your review and kind words.

Great, the adventures of Geo's continue. I added it to my video along with other games released in May. If you want, you can vote for the best games of the month in the comments of the video, thanks.

Version GAp.5 uploaded today with fixes to perimeters ensuring George stays in the play areas.

Version GAp.3 uploaded with a couple more fixes missed in the earlier release.

Dear GWI, it is possible to select world 2 level 1 right from the beginning. The game then shows the "You've won"-picture.

Thanks Patrick.  Yes, this is only a teaser I did in Backbone on the Amiga, just World 1. I am completing the actual game of all 40 or 50 levels and all worlds  in Scorpion. The second world will be an ice world on and in a mountain, and the 3rd world will be a ancient world of ruins. I hope to have that done in spring 2027.

Thank you and best wishes and greetings!

So great to see that you are continuing your work. Best wishes!!!

Okay Folks, version .1 uploaded to correct the unintended opening in level one key room. Thanks Saberman for finding it.

Although I can't stand Backbone, I'm impressed by the work put into the game especially going back to the 90's. Well done you! I can't wait to see the Scorpion Engine version :)

Thanks IndieRetro. The level drawing and adventurer George character and some of the menu pages were done in the 90,s. I finished converting the drawing to tiles and did the intro anim and the win/over screens  and finished building the levels this year. Because Backbone doesn't provide for layering backgrounds, the whole page has to be tiles (500 - 32 colour -16x16 tiles per level was the most backbone could handle) wow, which of course slows it down on a stock Amiga. But accelerate it with some fast ram and it moves pretty quick. Also you'll notice evreything that shoots is shooting the bird poop. ha ha ha, There should be water drops, lava bubbles, spider webs and flames shooting throughout, but Backbone will only assign the bird poop (which was the first weapon shot) to every object that shoots regardless of what I assign. Oh well, at least they shoot. lol

Thanks for the update man! It's all good :) - I could barely make music in the 90's let alone games lol

Nice game!

Thanks Saberman, HA looks like you found a boo boo in level one, I forgot to block that side off. ooppps. lol I'll correct it and upload a fixed version. Darn.
